1884 huckleberry finn non-illustrated
Greetings all,
I have a copy of "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" that I would like some information about. The most curious aspect is that it is unillustrated; but all the information I can find on the newsgroups only discusses the illustrated version. Unfortunately the front matter is missing, and the original cover has been replaced by a temporary paper cover. The book is 293 pages long, and after the text is a list of books from the publisher Chatto and Windus. At the top of the page on the right is printed "October, 1884." There are 28 pages of advertisements still present. I would be most grateful for any information regarding this book. Best regards Tim |

Hi Tim,
It does appear that the first edition was the 1884 Chatto and Windus edition and that this came out ahead of the first American edition. I checked on http://used.addall.com and only came up with the following listing that in any way resembles your book: "CHATTO & WINDUS 1922 A NEW IMPRESSION Hard Cover Poor. No Jacket A SUNNED SPINE AND SOME STAINING TO REAR BOARD, RED BOARDS WITH GOLD TITLES, 293 PAGES. " Does this help? Francis A. The first edition is indeed chatto and windus October 1884 but *illustrated*, whereas mine is dated 1884 but not illustrated. I am still confused.... ;-) |
