1864 Money order, check ?
From my grandmother's trunk, dated around 1864, what are these and how
were they used? http://weaverfamily.com/patterson/al..._68_checks_144 They are signed by a homœopathic practitioners in Elizabeth N.J, the family lived in Greene counry Pa. Are they payments (seems like a lot of money for 1864 and there is no obvious family account on the paper)? thanks dick weaver |

1864 Money order, check ?
They look like standard bank checks of the 1860-1870 era.
Possibly they could be for business supplies or other expenses or just money owed to people for whatever reason. The revenue stamps on them might have value but I don't have expertise in that area to say what they might be worth. I have seen checks similar to these sell in the $3-$5 range. |
