Least valuable currency

That's over 180 currencies Now, all you have to do is look thru' there and find some cheap ones. Thanks. I have already found several nice currency conversion web sites. I just need to know which specific countries to choose to pull up the conversion rates for. Thanks for the idea, but I have developed plenty of character already. Not really looking for opportunities like this to develop more. Unfortunately, it takes about 30 - 40 seconds per country so I am not that interested in spending 90+ minutes of tedium clicking through the list. Would have already done that on the numerous conversion sites available if I wanted to engage in that exercise. But I may think about creating a program to do that. At least that would be interesting. I am surprised that with volume of trading that is done every day that there is not a pre-generated "cheat sheet" for this type of thing. I like the idea of you clicking thru' those alphabetized 180 countries -- how long can it take? 10 minutes? You only have to convert to one common currency. Think of it as a character builder. :-) You can do it faster than you can get someone to give you a 'list' which won't be as definitive as your own current work. Also notice how a 'conversation' actually flows chronologically and sequentially. -- Mike Easter |

Each issue of the monthly World Coin News has a half page of nothing but exchange rates, but they are not ranked, nor do they offer any comparison with what the units used to be worth. Before the Euro was adopted by Italy, the lira was worth next to nothing, for example. This site may be of value to you: http://www.x-rates.com/ And no, in spite of the URL, it's not a porn site! 8) James |

I am NOT looking for a place to do foreign exchange trading to create fabulous wealth. So, please do not spam me. I am working on a project that is, well... not commercial. So, I am looking for an easy to use source of data. Thanks. Zimbabwe Dollar is losing value fast with inflation reports today of 1700%. |

Some of the components of what used to be Yugoslavia have undergone reductions so drastic that it almost takes scientific notation (as in ten to the minus x) to express them. Argentina, Brazil, Israel, and no doubt others have experienced the same thing. Many Latin American countries have given up entirely and now deem the U.S. dollar fit for their monetary back in the mid-1980s Brazil was going thru a period of hyperinflation and the cruzado was worth about 1/100 of a cent. Plus they had coins that were fractions of a cruzado! Needless to say the coins were worth more as metal (aluminum alloy) than cash. People would just throw the coins away in the street and even the poorest people wouldn't pick them up! Living in a country during a hyperinflation is an interesting experience, to say the least. Prices changed daily, sometimes hourly as the people sought to unload their worthless currency. |

Arrived on the train from Switzerland. We were gonna be in Italy for the whole week so I needed to dump some dollar denominated traveler's checks for the local currency (the Lira -- this was pre Euro). I think it was just under $650 bucks I turned in and after exchange fees I had just over a Million Lira. I was a millionaire!! The smallest bill I ever saw over there was a 1,000 Lira. I think that might have bought a stick of chewing gum. Folks carried around 10,000 Lira bills around like we carry a 10-spot U.S. dollar in our pocket. |

Sometimes in Italy rather than give back change in the form of a very low value coin a wrapped sweetie (piece of candy) would be given, this was back in the 1970s I think. Perhaps this should be tried in the USA? :-) Billy |
