They say a picture is worth a thousand words. You would do well to
make a good scan of both sides and post them on the net and then post
the url here so the experts can see what you've got. I'm sure it comes
as no surprise at all that condition determines value.

The £1 notes dated from 23 Feb 1942 to 15 Nov 1943 are valued at £400 in VF
but the notes dated 9 March 1936 to 1 Nov 1940 are £70 in VF.

Perhaps SCWPM does not differentiate between them as general guides often
don't.

There is also a difference between the grading systems of the two
publications. Billy

Catalog Values:
Ireland-Northern
Bank of Ireland
1 Pound 1936 Issue
55a Sign G. W. Frazer 9.3. 1936-1.11.1940 3.00 Good, 7.50
Fine, 50.00 XF
55b Sign H. J. Adams 23.2.1942-15.11.1943 2.00 Good, 5.00
Fine, 25.00 XF

Granted 10th Edition was published in 2003. Could it be that much
appreciation in 5 years?

SCWPM values are often determined by what contributors say they are. For
instance with Scottish, where I have quite a bit of experience with prices,
I notice stuff is often priced higher in the catalog than is actually going
on, but vice versa for Portuguese notes, which now are going for exponential
sums over their catalog values.

I recently acquired a Nicaraguan 1 Cordoba from 1938 in uncirculated, it is
not even priced. But the catalog is seriously out of date with most Central
American notes too.

The prices for the Irish notes are too high, I bought the 1943 in
uncirculated late last year from a well known British dealer for far less
than catalog.

I've had a rummage through my banknote auction catalogues but have not get
found examples to give a better picture of their value. Billy
