New CW Mailing Procedure?
I received my weekly Coin World in the mail yesterday with a heavyweight
paper advertising cover on the outside. I didn't see anything inside announcing a change in mailing procedure, but I sure wish they would continue this in the future. Even though the new ad cover was coin-related, there was no blazing COIN WORLD visible from across the street as is normally the case. I hold my breath and breath a sigh of relief whenever I see a CW in my mailbox along with a couple insured padded mailers. It wouldn't take more than a second grader (or even the rare dishonest postal employee) to surmise what goodies might be in those mailers. Anything to cover up that COIN WORLD cover would be comforting in the future to mail subscribers. Bruce |

CW comes in a variety of covers. The first issue of the month will be in a
poly bag, which also contains the monthly COIN Values mag. When they can sell the advertising space, it will come as yours did this last time. Otherwise, it will come naked, like you don't prefer. I'd recommend contacting Coin World directly with your concerns. Maybe then something would get done. "Bruce Remick" wrote in message news:_al5c.5650$rQ.1759@lakeread04... I'm sure that they would be happy to sell you an outwrap advertisement every week if you'd like one. To abate your security concerns, get a PO box. The best investment a coin guy can make. I don't subscribe to a coin magazine, precisely because I don't want it coming in the mail. It isn't a matter of an honest postal worker, or even valuable items in the mail, the problem is with the possibility that somebody might mention my interest in coins, and others letting their imagination run wild on what coins I might own. Which is why I have a safety deposit box for one quarter- eagle and a partial type set, and nothing but pennies at home. I would love to subscribe to a coin magazine, but I would want the publisher to promise in writing to mail in a plain brown wrapper. A Non-e-mouse |

Bruce, I thought that a long-timer like you would have a PO Box (or a UPS/MBE box). Most of the coin guys I know do not receive anything numismatic at home. In fact, as the newsletter editor of a club and working on club shows, I always used something vague for the return address: Livingston C C Club or LCCC. Michael "Anon." |

Most of the coin guys I know do not receive anything numismatic at home. In fact, as the newsletter editor of a club and working on club shows, I always used something vague for the return address: Livingston C C Club or LCCC. Michael "Anon." Actually, about all I receive in the mail, coin-wise is a weekly CW and an occasional Ebay-won coin in a mailer. Although I don't keep my better coins at home, I never felt it cost-effective or convenient to rent a PO Box just to get a coin magazine. But that one issue that comes now each month with the flashy Coin Values magazine just cries out "LOOK WHAT THIS GUY COLLECTS!". I'd even be willing to pay a couple more bucks just to have my weekly magazine "anonomized". I do feel some onus should be on the publisher (Amos Press) to consider subscriber concerns, if they want to keep and add customers. Why should 100,000+ subscribers be expected to get PO Boxes just to hide the fact that they subscribe to a coin newspaper because the publisher doesn't want to bear the cost (or pass it on) of adding a simple dummy cover to their mailing? I have written and emailed them before with no response and no results. I believe my wife's Southern Living magazine is mailed with a coversheet. I don't know why. I never had fear of a thief spotting the magazine in our mailbox and targeting our family julep glasses or seeing if we grow rare camelias. Bruce |

Right, they're going to re-machine their inserting, addressing, and bundling assemblies so that you can have your mag in a paper sack. They don't expect 100,000 customers to get a PO Box, they expect them to do what they feel comfortable with - or choose not to subscribe. Those dummy covers get real expensive real quick because in addition to the high cost of heavy offset BP, they travel at full rate because they don't have news content. Of course, with advertising it's a win for them, but the ads are obviously coin-related. Thieves aren't morons. For most of us with PO Boxes, the Coin World is one of many coin newspapers, magazine, auction cats, and coin deliveries we get each month. Our decision is not based solely upon 52 CW each year. We're probably not willing to subsidize the price of mailing blank paper to us each week because you don't subscribe to enough coin literature to make a PO Box commitment worthwhile. Seems like a small problem, because that's where the CC statements should be going anyway. In fact, all important mail should be going to the PO Box.
