I have these Austria, #1 & #2 single & pair. They seem too good to be
originals so was wondering if they may be reprints ?

There were articles on the reprints in "Austria" -- the magazine of
the Austrian Stamp Club of GB -- p12 of issue 63 of 1983 and on
forgeries on p8 of issue 64 and p45 of issue 104, Summer 1993, plus a
general review of literature on the 1850 set in issues 96 and 97 of
1991. Unfortunately my set of these mags is incomplete and Murphy has
guaranteed that 63, 64, and 96 are among my missing ones. But I think
someone else around here has a set. If not, I'll send you some scans
of what I do have when I get out of the morass of about 4000 stamps on
12 days approval.

Meanwhile, all I can offer is what SG Part 2 says:

"All values were reprinted in 1866, 1870, and 1884, the 1k (in both
colours) in 1887 and 2k again in 1894. All the reprints are on medium
thick paper, and the colours are brighter and fresher than those of
the original stamps. The reprints are for the most part more clearly
printed."

I think you'll have to be rather lucky to find a specialist at any
stamp club you wander into, and the only real solution is to pay the
costs of expertising.

I am an Austria specialist (although not as expert as for Italy),
