Default Ike dollar question

I have a question on a '76 Ike dollar that I can't find on the web. On the
reverse face, the last in STATES curves up to the middle of the E. All of
the other Ikes I have have much sorter serif on the S. Are there two types
of reverse faces for this coin? (It's a circulated coin, just not sure
whether to keep it out or toss it in the change jar.)

That's a Type 1 reverse. Compare the rest of the letters, especially
the "O" in "OF" and "DOLLAR".

Type 1s are much harder to find.

John has it right. It sounds like a Type 1. For me, I use the middle serif in
any of the "E"s on the reverse to determine variety. In Type 1, the middle
serif is a straight block style; in Type 2, the edge is slightly slanted upper
left to lower right. Type 2s are common; Type 1 MS or circulated are harder to
find. According to my Red Book, all Bicentennial Proofs (silver and clad) are
Type 1s.

....and while looking compare the right 'foot' of the letter R.

Thanks. I've read of the Type 1/Type 2, but could never find a picture of
the difference.
