I brought this laughable topic up when I first saw an even funnier ad
for these Chinese-made trinkets on SnoutTV, but no one responded to it.

I figure it was because the reader either felt there was no need to
restate the obvious, or was just too embarrassed to admit they
purchased one.

I just created a post a few hours before yours called "How much is the
gold or silver worth in that coin or medallion?" that actually links to
a blog that talks about this 9/11 Proof. I also put the link to the
website that has the commercial on it too. But read the blog post
before buying because you may have a different opinion afterwards.

Here are the links again.

Link to the article (please read before you buy):

Link to the commercial for the Ground Zero 9/11 5th Anniversary Proof
medallion (technically it's not a coin):

I see no problem in collecting these if one likes,
tokens/medals/exonumia??? But I havn't seen the piece and can't
comment on the strike quality or the design.

Thanks for the informative read, but I think; I'll pass on the
WTC medallion. I have had fun collecting on our trips (ie)
New Orleans-- Mardi Gras doubloon's and Reno & Las Vegas
one dollar slot machine tokens from the many casinos we
have stayed. laugh

Actually, this could be handy in trying to figure out the pennyweight
price of an eight strand gold necklace & bracelet that I inherited
back in the early 70s that my grandmothers cousin bought in
Denmark around the early 60's. Both are 18 karat gold and if I recall
correctly, on 6/1/80 the price per pennyweight was around 70 dollars
and on 8/1/80 around 75 dollars. The necklace is 58.2 pennyweight and
the bracelet 26.0 pennyweight. I'll have to try and figure this out
when I check out the current price of gold today. Now, only if I knew
how to add in artistic workmanship, design and labor...lol

Just for the fun of it...I scanned a couple pics of my Mardi Gras
doubloon's @a.b.p.n.

Again, thank you goldbug!

Nice article. However, for those interested in the simple problem of
converting units so they can calculate precious metals values, here's a
little trick that many people may not realize exists:

Do a Google for "15 mg in troy oz"
eg: http://www.google.com/search?q=15+mg+in+troy+oz

Bam! Multiply by the value of a troy ounce and you're done. No need to
mess with grains or furlongs or whatsits. This works for just about any
units you can imagine...

Thanks for sharing this Jim. That Google trick is very cool and very
convenient.
