Silver Eagle 20th Anniversary
I usually buy coins just for the aesthetic value and enjoy collecting
the commemoratives from the Mint website. I placed my order for the $100 Silver Eagle 20th anniversary set today, but the reverse proof seemed like a very extraordinary coin, and I was wondering if it was worth it to order a few extra sets for resale. Is this a set that might be buying as many as possible, or at least a few extra? Thanks! |

They are sold out! haha The 3 piece gold went first. But they are
filling wait lists. cougar wrote: I usually buy coins just for the aesthetic value and enjoy collecting the commemoratives from the Mint website. Are they sold out of the Gold set? You can still order on line. Usually
they post sold out if they are. "Michael" wrote in message oups.com... They are sold out! haha The 3 piece gold went first. In case you're serious - or people take you seriously - I feel compelled to point out that the "Silver" and the "Gold & Silver" sets are still available. My guess is that they WILL sell out eventually, but with a limit of 250,000 for the silver sets, it may take some time. -- Jim Seymour |

Silver Eagle 20th Anniversary
I saw the note about the gold but couldnt access the other two sets.
So only assumed. BTW what made the 1996 Gold set with a proof silver eagle so valuable? What was so special about the W mintmark? Actually, that was 1995. And it's special because the normal proof silver eagles from that year were minted in Philadelphia and had a "P" mint mark. Going by the mint mark, West Point didn't start making proof silver eagles until 2001. 1995 was the only year with two different mint marks on the proof silver eagles. -- Jim Seymour |

Silver Eagle 20th Anniversary ON EBAY
???? wrote: Didn't take long for someone to get it on ebay! http://cgi.ebay.com/2006-American-Ea...QQcmdZViewItem I guess he figures it has more than doubled in value due to the sellout....and he doesn't seem to mind violating eBay rules on presales. He has to ship no more than 30 days after the close of the auction and he can't since the Mint won't begin shipping until that date. |

BTW what made the 1996 Gold set with a proof silver eagle so valuable? I assume you mean 1995. The reason for the value is the 1995-W Proof Silver Eagle. They only had 30,000 of these sets purchased....so only 30,000 "complete" sets of Proof Silver Eagles can be assembled What was so special about the W mintmark? Up until that time Proof Silver Eagles had only been minted in San Francisco....and then Philadelphia. The "consumer" version of the Proof Silver Eagle for 1995 had a "P" mint mark. Side note: the 1995-W Proof Silver Eagle in that set was "free". When you placed your order that year for the Proof Gold Set you had a choice of a four coin set or a 5 coin set that included the silver Eagle. The price for both sets was the same $995. I believe a total of 40 to 41,000 total sets were sold, with 30,000 of them being the 5 coin sets. That means 10 or 11,000 people were pretty stupid. I think the whole thing sucked and !'m still ****ed at then Mint Director Phil "I'll do as I damned well please" Diehl. Since I didn't have a spare $1000 at the time, I knew my proof silver Eagle set would never be complete. |
