Is there a way to remove the copper from a zinc penny??
It is an interesting idea. With the melting point of zinc so much
lower than that of copper it sounds feasible. I'd like to see the resulting hollow cent. You do not need to melt to get a hollow cent. You just need a mild acid. Take a copper coated zinc cent, scratch it in four or five place on the rim, and put it in vinegar. The zinc will dissolve long before the copper, resutling in a copper hollow cent. I've never used "LQQK" and can't recall having ever bought anything so hyped. Padraic. la cieurgeourea provoer mal trasfu ast meiyoer ke 'l andrext ben trasfu. |

Billy Searching by "-L@@K" does a pretty good job of weeding out the less than serious sellers too! Padraic. la cieurgeourea provoer mal trasfu ast meiyoer ke 'l andrext ben trasfu. |

Is there a way to remove the copper from a zinc penny??

oups.com... Is there any way to "melt" the copper off of a zinc penny, so that you just have a regular penny made out of zinc?? I know you can file the copper off, etc., but I'm talking about removing the copper in such a way that the coin doesn't look crappy that it looks like a nice coin that was minted that way?? No, but you can melt the zinc from outside of the cent. Make a small nick in the copper jacket, down to the zinc. Heat with a butane torch until all zinc is melted out from the nick. There you go. Zinc melts BEFORE copper. I've done it a dozen times. Jonathan |
