Default Odd German overprint on Italian stamps

I must admit that it is unusual for me to be stumped on
Italian material, but an accumulation that I have been given includes
two Italian stamps (Imperiale issue) overprinted Deutches Reich
with bars obliterating Poste Italiane, and a new value over the original.

I suspect this is a post-war fabrication (a 'Florence welcomes the allies'
and another unofficial overprint that I have seen before was also present)

However, if anyone can point me in another direction I would be most interested.

I shall scan the two stamps, but one is dark brown and the other dark blue,
so I doubt that the overprints will show up.

I have now posted an image of these two stamps on

Anyone with a specialised Michel catalogue of Germany
might find them. Any help would be gratefully received.

Per the GPS Forgery Manual, these are "private fabrications,
produced to defraud collectors".

Yes, GPS is the Germany Philatelic Society.

The Florence "issue" wasn't really intended to defraud
anybody. It merely expresses a sentiment. It rates a
listing in the 1977 catalog by Errani & Giannetto, and
also gets mentioned (but not listed) in the comprehensive
1988 catalog by Errani & Raybaudi-Massilia.

Many thanks - what is the GPS? The Germany Philatelic Society?

I have had similar comments (as a fantasy issue) from an Italian Specialist.

Along the line of 'Florence Welcomes the Allies" and some other propaganda
issues.

Many thanks.
