Didn't you mean to ask, "Where is the dubbed stuff?" Check the
alignment tape auction. later, ron

all tapes are dubbed- from the 2nd and 3rd generation masters at the
tape factory

so ??

see any auction for tapes on ebay- they're all "dubbed'

Mostly correct--to be more specific, the alignment tape listed is a
homemade dubbed copy and not the original from the manufacturer.

mostly correct- to be more specific, the alignment tape listed will
align your vintage 8-track deck to correct head tracking for both
azimuth and head height- and the tape has received stellar positive
feedback on Ebay, take a look yourself

To be specific, the GC Electronics/Audiotex alignment cart isn't a
real, first generation tape, either. It's a mass produced dub of a
questionable master. So, when you figure that the real Audiotex tape,
IF it's in good condition, which is doubtful, has a frequency response
tolerance of ±4 dB (per their own published specs), and you can see
where this, as well as the "Aspen Deck Tester", aren't very good for
real alignment purposes on their own merits. By the time the
fraudster dubs off a copy using cheap home grade machines, the
tolderances are even wider, more like ±10 dB through the band, and the
reference fluxivity is nowhere near where it's supposed to be. This
makes his frauds unsuitable for even minor troubleshooting work.

Looking at real alignment tapes from MRL, they have a frequency
response tolerance on their frequency runs of around ±.5 dB, and the
reference fluxivity is about ±.2 dB. These are "one off" laboratory
grade tapes, not mass produced crap, like the Audiotex. This isn't to
say that the real Audiotex can't be useful for some quick
troubleshooting, but the final arbiter of performance comes from a
real alignment tape or cartridge, not some cheesy dub. Many of
Nortronics' cartridge and cassette test tapes were mass dubbed as
well, but were calibrated, in that the master would be "predistorted"
to take into account the vagaries of the duplicating line equipment,
and thus, they'd come out pretty close to the "one off" tape in terms
of fluxivity. Azimuth on the slave machines was also checked before
each run. I have both the duplicated and the "one off" alignment
cassettes from Nortronics, and there's a barely perceptable difference
in the reference fluxivity, in the order of .5 dB, and the same for
the freq run tones, when compared to a new MRL alignment cassette,
thus making them a useful tool. There is no difference in azimuth
between the two, either.

That fraud tape I got from 66fourdoor, aka Chuckie Noodles, was all
over the map, and the fluxivity was out in the thin air somewhere.
The azimuth also proved to be around 7° off, enough to cause serious
loss of high frequency energy on playback of any deck aligned with it.
Thus, 66fourdoor's "alignment cartriges" on eBay are counterfeit
frauds. Feel free to cc my analysis to eBay's "Safe Harbor" section
for action.

Caveat emptor.

Hey, you're the guy who recommended that everyone use an old Boston
cart to align their tape deck heads.

I think it fair to say that the alignment tape listed is not an
original Audiotex alignment tape but a homemade dubbed copy. Nor will
it be the item pictured. Be advised that the listing is less than
honest. later, ron

correction- the tape pictured is not the same one that buyers get- as
they are all the same- I list the same picture each time

just like the 8-track motors- no reason to list a new picture for a
bulk item, when each item is identical

the Boston cart works fine to align a deck- Columbia's track assignment
and QC were the best there was in the 1970's

I've compared a deck aligned using the Boston cart, to an alignment
cart- exactly the same setting.

but you won't have the various high-end tones with the Boston cart- so
you need a good ear to use the Boston cart to align a deck

Further correction: If you make homemade dubbed copies one at a time,
they can't possibly be 'all the same'.

Another further correction: The listing states that it is for an
Auditex (sp?) alignment cartridge. It is not. It's for a homemade
dubbed copy. You should correct your listing because it is wrong,
false, misrepresentative, and dishonest. It reflects badly on your
character and reputation.

Bottom line: The auction says it's for something that it isn't, and
the picture is of something else. You could fix it in five minutes,
but you prefer to be deceptive. End of story. later, ron

Bottom line: The auction says it's for something that it isn't, and
the picture is of something else. It is fraudulent, and you know it to
be so. You could fix it in five minutes, but you prefer to be
deceptive and dishonest. This fact reveals more about your character
than a million feedbacks ever could. End of story. later, ron
