Default seburg 222 mech died

Hi all,
When I selected a record on my 222, it started to scan normally, then
just slowed way down making a buzzing sound. It couldn't load the
record at all. I got the record to eject and while trying to determine
the problem (by scanning back and forth), I could smell a slight
burning and it just died (did not see smoke). I see there is a fuse on
the mech, but it looks ok by sight (but haven't actually metered it
yet). What could be the cause? Motor turns freely (mech rebuilt a year
ago and ran fine up till now). Could it be that large cap? Thank you,
Rick.

It's quite possible one section of the motor capacitor (the big metal can on
the carriage) has become open. Another possibility - less likely - is that
one of the windings inside the motor has become open. Finally, check the "O"
(I think) contact on the upper switch stack on the front of the carriage
assembly to see if the contact is closing properly during scan and transfer
modes.

The fuse is not related to the drive motor operation - it fuses the Tormat
memory system readout circuitry.

Thanks Tony, Mark, and James for the info. I'll check that cap (I have
three 200 play library units in the garage that I can use as a
reference and pull from 1 of them if need be before I sell them).
Thanks guys, Rick.
