Dear friends,
I am making my personal Machin stamp album and would like to place a
representative image of its contents on the cover. I would like to hear
some
proposals from you so I'd be able to create a beautiful album cover. Any
ideas are welcome. If possible, I'd appreciate also if you could provide
links to public domain images, or not so public domain but that they
could
serve as an inspiration.

Thanking you all in advance,
Pedro

What about a photo/image of the Machin bust?
http://www.thepotteries.org/did_you/machin/cast.jpg

You could use a graphics program to crop it in an oval with softened
edges.

Of course you could bid on the fourth, recently found, cast ...
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/theroyalfamily/2674511/Arnold-Machin-plaster-cast-used-for-image-of-Queen-on-stamps-is-found.html
and use it as the actual 'cover'!

That's a fine idea too. I am planning indeed to make 2 other albums more.
One for my 8 years old nephew, and another one for a friend. I like very
much Ralph's proposal and yours, and at this time, I don't know which one
to
get for mine.

Pedro

Have a look at either:
http://ttrr.org/scans/cast_mod.jpg
or
http://ttrr.org/scans/cast_mod.tif

This will print out at about 6x8. If you want smaller, then have the
printer
resize, don't use a program to resample and resave as it's already been
jpg'd twice [or more] and on the edge of bing 'rough'.

Excellent image. I've used it for my second album. It's very beautiful too.
Both albums are impressive.
Thank you very much for your proposals.

Pedro

Good show Pedro;
Now a question for you.
What is your source of Machins?
It has been quite some time since I dealt with my Machins.
Computer problems, a change in servers and CRS have taken a toll on
me.
Bombay gives me most of the new issues but I need selective buying to
fuill the gaps.

I think most of my machins have come from letters and ebay.

If you have a digital camers, perhaps you could take a pic and put it up
on
cjoint or another image sharing site?

Love to see what others create.

Glad to help.

First of all, excuse my delay in answering. I've been not visiting the news
for some days. I finally made two albums some days ago: one for my nephew
and another one for me. On the front cover of my nephew's album I used the
collage image I created placing many machins over my flatbed scanner as
Ralph recommended me. Unfortunately this album has been sent from Madrid to
the Canary Islands so I cannot make a photo of it, but...luckily I used
the collage image also on the back cover of mine, so all of you can enjoy
taking a look at it. I used the Machin bust image for my front cover as you
suggested. I put no title on front cover in the same way british stamps have
no written denomination. Perhaps a no margins printing also on the front
cover of my album would be better. I don't know. Let me know your comments
about my work, please.

Hi Pedro,

Beautiful work of art !

Congratulations !

Like Sir F. A. Rien, I especially appreciated the simpilicity of the
bust on the front.

Your work place is too neat! G

Looks great with the paper margins, though I'd suggest a plastic sheet as
the 'final cover' over the printed one to save scraping and dirt.

The collage is busy, excellent for the back, but the simpilicity of the
bust
on the front attracts me more.

If you download Irfanview, you can easily crop and touch up your camera's
images.

On with your Machin'ations!

You haven't seen the other half of my work place yet G

There is a transparent plastic sheet in front of both covers. I placed their
bright side looking inwards to avoid reflections and scratches. That, and
because I used no flashlight may be the reason why it seems unprotected.

Thanks for your comments!

Pedro
