escrow services - question
Came across https://www.escrow.com/index.asp and it seems a good
option with large purchases. Way to eliminate problems along the way. Currently in touch wioth an Indonesian seller, country which has been problematic for others in the past. Please can you share your experiences or what you suggest. It is a private purchase not fleabay together with another coillector/buyer and we want to be certain. Seller wants money transfer. May be all bona fide and above board but there have been all manners of problems dealt with here and on zoss. So want to be certain. Thanks for input. |

Still caution must not be thrown to the wolves while doing international buys. If you must buy something from overseas and you know the seller has a sterling reputation, then you can buy with confidence. However, if the seller is someone with a reputation and you do not know that, you can lose your money and not get the item you contracted to receive. You can use an escrow account, but still, it is a long way toward receiving your item and you wait by the mailbox until it arrives. My advise is to stick with domestic sellers (USA) and only deal with those who have a good reputation. This way, you will get your item and the seller gets his money and the transaction is kosher. I got burned once by a seller from Malaysia and still am waiting for my pen. Ebay was no help to me at all - I followed their procedures by trying to contact seller only to get runaround. By the time, my tranaction was 90 days old and cut off from Ebay's insurance. It was cheaper to eat the loss ($200) than to pay for a round trip ticket to hunt down the miscreant. Malaysia local police would have thrown you in the slammer if you persisted in bothering them due to local corruptiness. As a result, I no longer buy from foreign sources and confine my buying to domestic sources. So, to make it shorter, buyer beware! And to quote PT Barnum, a sucker is born every minute. Think before you send the money and be sure that the seller is as honorable as you are. James K. Goodwin |
