the "Buy-It-Now" prices asked on eBay are generally ludicrously high?
What's the thinking behind that?
"Gee, maybe I'll catch a drunken sucker!"?

Well, I must have been drunk when I paid a Buy-it-now price of $232.50
for a complete DVD boxed set of all the episodes of "Mama's Family"
starring Carol Burnett.

But I paid; it was a debt of honor.

I've been a sucker a couple of times percentage wise, though dollar
wise it was not that much. That is, I might pay $10 for a $5 coin if I
just got-to-have it, but I won't pay $150 for a $100 coin.

But usually I just put such auctions on my watch list and hope for a
price reduction since a small percentage of sellers will lower the
price when they relist.

I have wondered about that. Maybe it's for the person that absolutely,
positively has to have the item at (almost) any cost. I must admit that
I've used that option a couple times myself. But, the BIN price wasn't too
bad.

But have you ever noticed auctions with a BIN option that get a few lower
bids (removing the BIN option) and then end up going for a final amount that
exceeded the original BIN? I've seen more than one of those recently. Some
people get funny and emotional when it comes to auctions.

I've noticed that.
I've also tracked auctions that did not sell, were relisted and then
sold for a higher price!

And as much as I hate to admit knowing it - Mama's Family starred Vicki
Lawrence, not Carol Burnett. Though Carol did make a few guest
appearances...

Mama's Family was a spinoff from a series of skits performed on Carol's
show.
