Several interesting new coin-related programs from The FranklinMint...
I have always been a fan of the Franklin Mint and have expressed that
for a long time in this newsgroup. Of course the company will never exist again that produced those stunning medals, ingots, coins of the realm, pewter, silver plates etc...all made in the USA. But I am glad to see the Franklin Mint under the new owners at least developing some products with that Franklin Mint style. In many cases they use art etc from older FM programs. Here are several that some may like. This is not an issue about overpriced coins...yes the coins themselves can be shopped around. Some may like a few panels just for fun. http://www.franklinmint.com/product1...roduct_ID=9836 http://www.franklinmint.com/product1...roduct_ID=9918 http://www.franklinmint.com/product1...roduct_ID=9478 Here is a real pic of shipment #1 of the last program linked: |

Let my try that photo link again. Photo #1 is the Washington
Presidential Coin and Stamp Folio. It was about $24 from Franklin Mint. Photo# is an example of the new Franklin Mint Presidential Portrait Medal series struck in gold plated brass for $9.95 each. Made from dies created by the Franklin Mint in 1988. http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/q...mpFolios-3.jpg http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/q...pFolios-22.jpg http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/q...4ktGoldo-2.jpg http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/q...4ktGoldo-1.jpg |

And last but not least...a couple pics of my favorite Franklin Mint
series of medals...the Masterpieces of Rodin from 1986. Entirely made in the USA by Franklin Mint. Quality unmatched. These are large medals with very high frosted relief. http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/q...edals-Adam.jpg http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/q...als-Balzac.jpg http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/q...CalltoArms.jpg http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/q...ls-TheKiss.jpg http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/q...heThinker1.jpg |

The bronze issues are always cheap on the bourse floor and the medallic work is unsurpassed. Their contract strikes for small nations are also high quality, as well. I think that the flak they took here was mostly because of the collectibles collections programs for collectors of collectibles. I mean, what else can you do with them? They were parodied in THE MERCHANT WAR as the "100% Nearly Silver Khans of the Hoarde" series of busts. Also, speaking of merchants, the fave raves around here are JP Morgan, Rockefeller, Carnegie, as opposed to the somewhat questionable pandering to religion: Angels of the Renaissance; Scenes from the Bible; Women of the Bible, Life of Brian, etc.... etc.... Myself, it's the inventors, authors and other people. In fact, at the last MSNS, I found a nice FM Robert Frost, not my favorite poet, but this honors "The Road Not Taken" which I like. Mike M. If it were 15 of them for $75 it would be a good deal, but I don't think that's how it works. They never did send the Colorized "I Love Lucy" quarters I ordered. I finally had to call and get a refund. Normally I pass on the colorized stuff, but I'm a Lucy fan and it was 5 coins for about $10 so I decided to give it a chance. |

The shipment came for 1879 and it is a strong AU Morgan. I see a few
selling on Ebay for $35+. At $59 thats really not much of a margin considering $35 for the coin is just one aspect of the product cost. I love the Drew Struzan western portraits!!
