Ebay Hacked Again - Credit Cards & Passwords Posted
Kris Baker wrote:
According to eBay, the credit card numbers that were posted did NOT correspond to the credit cards on file on either eBay or PayPal. That doesn't mean that they weren't a user's regular cards, only that the data was likely accumulated phish attempts. That's why they are *calling* members. They've called, and the credit card numbers were completely phony. Made up numbers, not belonging to anyone. The contact information was gotten when these accounts were taken over through phish. The best site security in the world isn't going to prevent people from responding to phish if they are gullible. http://www.ebaychatter.com/ -- Joanne stitches @ singerlady.reno.nv.us.earth.milky-way.com http://members.tripod.com/~bernardschopen/ |

But read AuctionBytes accusations: http://auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y07/m09/i26/s01 When members posted the names of accounts involved, and eBay removed the AboutMe page, AuctionBytes accuses eBay of "sweeping it under the rug". IMO, AuctionBytes does nothing but feed paranoia. Kris |

IMO, AuctionBytes does nothing but feed paranoia. Kris Ina Steiner wants to build readership. So, it's to her benefit to raise fears/interest in anything she reports on. My opinion is that this hit eBay in the middle of the night, when very few people are available, and those are probably sleeping peacefully. It takes time to get someone who can make a decision, and I've seen complaints that the posts were left up too long as well as complaints that the posts (and About Me pages) were hidden. Can't have it both ways. "Vlad" looks like a good suspect. He's taken a fragment of fact and constructed a story around it before, and it looks like this is the same pattern. Some people just live to get vicarious thrills. -- Joanne stitches @ singerlady.reno.nv.us.earth.milky-way.com http://members.tripod.com/~bernardschopen/ |

That's the number 1 sign that odd question should be avoided I wonder if these scary-silly eBay posts hit on a Friday night? Yup. Vlad is a money-maker for lots of people. He must be kept alive. Like gojody, there's always a reason someone doesn't mind spending half their life looking useless. Kris |

Not so convenient for eBay. -- Joanne stitches @ singerlady.reno.nv.us.earth.milky-way.com http://members.tripod.com/~bernardschopen/ |

It's expiration date has past long ago, but I would like to remove the card. Duh - You hate eBay, yet you continue to keep an account. Why would I hate eBay? Doesn't cost me anything. A guy goes into a bar, sits down and orders a beer. He looks around and notices Meg is sitting a couple seats from him. Meg says "Looking for some action. I have a room right down the street." The guy says "I'm worried about how much it would cost and wether or not it would be worth it. Meg says, "Come on, you can't be that poor" The guy says, "I'm not, but you can't be that rich". -- Blujay - Free Stores - Shopping Carts http://blujay.com Ecrater - Free Stores - Shopping Carts http://ecrater.com Craigslist - Free Classifieds http://craigslist.org |
