Q: unusual stamp mount
Eric,
You are correct. They are glassine. I was fumbling around with avoiding the word "cellophane" and didn't get the right word. I didn't notice these mounts until today because they are surprisingly unnoticeable. They look too perfect to be homemade. I may have to remove one to see how it was made. Tom Eric Bustad wrote: Tom Loepp wrote: I was looking through an old heavy art nouveax Shaubeck's stamp album, probably from the 20's or teens. Some of the stamp mounts, which I've never seen before, are little wax paper pockets that the stamp slides in like a slide does in one of those protective sheets. The wax paper comes only 2/3rds the way up the front of the stamp but adheres to the album towards the back top of the stamp. Was this an available philatelic product at that time? Are these sort of mounts still around? It seems like a nice way to safely put mint stamps in an album with a minimal amount of fuss and material. thanks for any info. Tom Never heard of or seen such a mount. I hope that the paper is glassine and not wax - the wax would eventually stain the stamp. = Eric |

Thanks Dakota,
Nothing in google in web or groups. Visimount is now a placard. Tom Dakota wrote: Tom Loepp wrote in message ... Tom Tom: These were called Visi-mounts and they were made in Maine, Vermont - someplace up in the North East. They were really expensive at that time - being something like 5 cents each - more than individual mounts cost even now. You might find info about them through Google - maybe not. I believe the factory/manufacturer went out of business in the early 1950's. Handshakes, Dakota |

Tom:

Go to google, you'll find a subheading for "Chapter 4" click on that one. It's an essay on economic factors in Maine - if you dig far enough down the list you'll find Visi-Tray listed as a stamp mount manufacturer. But they went out of business a log time ago. Handshakes and apoligies, Dakota |
