Is it safe to post your pen?
Hello all, I really love high quality fountain pens, but I am afraid I
am still ignorant of some of the more importance maintainance and care common practices. I happen to like Mont Blanc's and their balance and nibs, but, I noticed when I went to the boutique, one of the ladies was particularly strong handed when posting her pens (I mean putting the cap on the end of the barrel). Now, I must admit that one of my first concerns is the health and longevity of my pens. I am worried about a few things. I had a Waterman with a kind of venere marble-ish finish once, and it was a good pen, but back then I would post the cap without much of a second thought. Suddenly I realized that I had caused the finish on the barrel to come off. The cap itself was metal, but I also read that sometimes posting can cause the caps to split? Now, comes to my concern for my fountain pen, it's a Montblanc Meisterstuk Le Grande, and I want to preserve the finish of the resin, as well as the integrity of the cap and barrel; is it safe or recommended to post the cap? It's not really a big deal for me, but I guess I just wonder if it is something "safe" to do. Can anyone give me any pointers? Do I risk the finish and safety of the cap and barrel every time I put the cap of my pen on the back of its barrel? :-| *shudders at the thought* Thanks for any help you can provide. - Aaron -- Aaron Hsu |

I find that I rarely post a pen. However, I do agree with L's earlier
response: I wouldn't post a cap on a Mont Blanc. They are prone to splitting and chipping. Nice pens but they certainly require a bit more gentle handling overall. |
