Did I mention this is a great coin?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=150261814545
Very nice of the seller to list the reserve at $100 less than the coin is actually worth. In fact it is probably worth a lot more. Just ask him. |

James I don't pay prices made up by PCGS to make the clients of their brand of plastic feel better about themselves. In fact, I try never to pay over Greysheet unless it's for something that I know to be rarer than the listed prices (there are many examples such as the 1880 or 1883/2 Shield Nickels for instance), or for a coin that is totally PQ for the assigned grade. IMO this 1921 Peace Buck doesn't make the list of things that are worth more than Greysheet. |

There's no pricing guide that covers all situations, as you point out. It also depends on whether a dealer sizes you up as another dealer, as opposed to a retail customer, as well as a host of other considerations. The best we can hope for is some kind of range of values, with the endpoints sloshing around quite a bit. I think your accusation that PCGS is attempting to make owners of their products feel good about themselves is rather flippant, and I'm equally sure that you don't give a damn what I think, so there, I said it for you. Coin values in December of 2007 lists a top shelf example at $1,000.00. The auction in question is not top shelf, in my limited experience. |

I think your accusation that PCGS is attempting to make owners of their products feel good about themselves is rather flippant, and I'm equally sure that you don't give a damn what I think, so there, I said it for you. Well, when I look at their quoted prices and think to myself "I would sell every PCGS coin that I own if I could only get those prices" then there must be a disconnect somewhere. BTW I don't see a lot of PCGS coins selling on eBay for that kind of money either unless the coin is totally PQ or downright rare. |
