it's still possible to find them in pocket change!

the ratio here is about 1 in 100.
dimes are about 1 in 60.
seems odd.
haven't gotten a silver quarter this decade.

1 in 60 means 5 silver dimes in every 6 rolls, a total that seems
highly improbable to me (as does your alleged wheatie ratio).
The only silver coins I still get is halves (or halfs if you prefer),
usually 40%er's.

you've seen my halves lists.
why do you think the wheats inprobable? where do you live?
i get a lot of silver dimes. this is a poor town and people spend everything.
i get proofs, wheats, a very occasional indian and dimes.
the dines are almost alway rosies. i find maybe 1 merc a year.
i go through boxes of coins and the cash drawers of a large supemarket.
but if you want silver, work in a gas station. i buy a lot of silver from
stations. people will do anything to keep cars moving.
try putting your attitude on hold for a while and just discuss coins.

One silver dime out of sixty coins looked at is exceptional.
Really.

Here in Springpatch I'd guess you might get one silver dime out of
twenty thousand coins looked at.

Maybe one wheat for every ten dollars in cents looked through.

You are doing exceptionally well.

In Senecapatch I find maybe one silver dime a month and I'm guessing I open
about 40 to 60 dime rolls a month, so, doing the math, one silver dime in
2,000 to 3,000 dimes.

I'm gong to hazard a guess that I see one wheatie in every four rolls of
cents; one in 200, but I'm not really looking that close, the wheatback kind
of jumps out at me. I check the date and generally return the coin to the
register.

I get about 6 silver war nickels a year. Figure 10 rolls a week by 40 coins
by 52 weeks. Let's see, carry the two, divide by six; comes to roughly one
in 3,500.

Hello all,

In my part of the world, there are vending machines that dispense
ether US "rare" coins or foreign coins. Most of the time I've gotten
wheaties, a few dateless buffalos (I spent one and had to tell the
cashier it was US money), and at one time I got an Israeli coin, a
Finnish coin, and a Portuguese coin (I lost it somehow). Its a fun
thing to do.

Huh! I got one too, 1956-D. Some green corrosion, At a local
mexican restuarant. I attribute some of these to the "Coinstar"
effect.

I went cube fishing (sifting through the desk drawers of cubicles in
my building after a department moves out), and found a 1956-D and a
1946,
as well as a 2008 Lincoln cent, my first 2008 non-quarter/dollar I
have seen
all year!! I was reading this thread, and went to find the Wheaties,
and just
ran into the 2008: I did not notice it during my fishing expedition...
I am so happy!

the dimes are exceptional, but as stated, i do search supermarket and gas
station drawers. from box searches, the level is more like one in a box.
that's on a year long average.
halves are still my best, as you know.
in ma, and in ia, one wheat in 4 rolls was about right. i think the huge hiway
traffic we get helps. 90% of the sales are to travelers. i've heard tales of
desperate need fluching out silver dollars and rolls of silver. one of the
dollar storys, at least, is true because i bought it from a gas jockey.
you do ok in war nickles. i have most of the town looking for me, so my stats
would be way skewed, as on dimes. i think i got 23 in 2007, 21 bought from
finders and 2 i found.
even as thin as the times have gotten, i still love searches.
senecapatch sounds like upstate neuvos yokos. beautiful countryside, great for
2 lane motorcycling
