Got my 2001-D Sacagaweas
Back in February I posted about a failed expedition to the Denver Mint's
gift shop to get some 2001-D golden dollars rumored by a Denver Post news article. Yesterday I happened to be in the area, and dropped in again. Jackpot!! The vending machine inside the entrance was brimming with really nice 2001-D Sacagaweas and Orgeon quarters. The Sackies were definitely "prooflike" IMO. Extra nice mirror surfaces, the shame was that they were clanking into the output hopper one by one, making scores of new dings and bag marks. Nevertheless, I was delighted to get away with my new small horde, amaze my co-workers, etc. There was no word on whether the Denver Mint is now really out of stock on 2000 GD's. --Dave |

My latest batch of dollar coins (2000 - 2 boxes of 1000) contained the
following: 460 SBAs 200 2001 GDs (some of each mint, but mostly D) 1 2003-P GD The rest were 2000 GDs (P & D) with about 250 "Super Shiny". For the last many, many months the SBA/GD ratio has been about 1/3. I re-roll the coins back in the wrappers they came in but I keep them sorted out so I can: * give the super shiny GDs to those that want them for tipping or gifts (or whatever). * give the regular GDs as change for those who want to spend them and don't care what they look like (like using them in the vending machines). * Save the SBAs until I have a few boxes full and then I drive them toward the mexican border and deposit them in one or more banks on this side of the border. San Diego banks use differnt cash vaults than Los Angeles so hopefully they don't drift back "up this way". I also spend a bunch of them when I'm down there, in the full rolls with each roll stamped "RARE APOLLO XI DOLLAR COINS FROM THE 1900's". The reverse is showing on both ends of all rolls. Great fun and a lot of folks say "I've never seen thse before". I have not tried to get another mint bag of 2001 GDs from my bank recently. I might try again soon, but as long as the 2001 GDs are showing up in circulation, that's a good sign. -Fred Shecter http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQ...shreadv ector |
