I realize that perhaps it takes one to know one; but OTOH, you must be
in agreement about the illiterate blight???

New to coin collecting. Does the value of a coin deminish if you
remove a coin from the plastic holder to put into an album or
folder.

If the plastic holder is sealed and labeled by one of the top grading
companies, breaking the coin out may make it less attractive to
potential buyers if you ever want to sell it, especially if it has been
graded as uncirculated (MSxx). Otherwise, its value to YOU is what
counts. If you have a hole in an album that needs to be filled, and you
obtained that coin to place in the hole, go for it.

Yep, go right ahead and bust out that PCGS MS70 coin from its holder.
Nobody will ever care when you try to resell it.
Great advice...not!

I thought I made it clear enough that breaking out an uncirculated (MS)
coin might not be wise if you ever plan to resell it. I guess not.
Unless you didn't bother to read what I said.

.

Why are you feeding a troll? Billy

Depends on what you mean by plastic holder? I've taken coins out of
special sets (like sets of WWII coins, American Nickels, etc.), also
from mint sets and even proof sets. When I decided to assemble
complete date sets of certain coins, mint sets were a more affordable
way of doing it, esp. since I already had most of the dates needed.

But I have not cracked out any certified (PCGS, NGS, ANACS, etc.)
coins. Doing so would almost certainly diminish the value of the
coins.

So far, the only two certified coins I have even considered removing
are two, PCGS and NGC SF Old Mint (Proof and MS) Commemoratives, and
only because the holders are scratched and also because I would like
to have the coins together in a single holder. They are MS-69 and
PR69DCAM so it would not be a huge loss, but I have resisted the
temptation so far.

What plastic holder? *The value of the coin will demenesh if you take the
safety pin out of your spoiled brat's diaper and use it to put a big long
scratch down the front of it.

Alright, here is something:

Alan Hagar invented coin grading. Not David Hall.
