Default Help with 1st Edition ID - Inner Sanctum

I just bought (off of eBay) two Emma Lathen mysteries that I've been seeking
for some time. (For my personal collection, not for sale.) They a

*Come to Dust.* Simon & Schuster (An Inner Sanctum Mystery), 1968. Back of
title page states "First Printing." There is no number line. Black
paper-covered boards, green lettering on spine.

*Pick Up Sticks.* Simon & Schuster (An Inner Sanctum Mystery), 1970. Back
of title page states "First Printing." There is no number line. Green cloth,
black lettering on spine.

*Come to Dust* seems difficult to find in any iteration, with all of the
AddALL listings that have jackets being either book club or ex-library. So,
I was thrilled to find these two books, both of which I needed (and one of
which I've never read!), in a single auction. The only problem: I got them
today, and they are both price clipped (which was not stated in the
auction).

They look a lot like another S&S Inner Sanctum Mystery that I've got from
the same time period, so they might be legit, but *Come to Dust* especially
bothers me because it's price clipped on the bottom of the inside cover.
(There is no blind stamp on the back cover.) The other book is clipped on
the top.

Could anyone help me to confirm if I've got true first editions on these?

Alice

Lathen S&S 1969 and is also stated "First Edition" and no number line. If

The only thing I can offer is that in the late '60s S&S did put the price on
the bottom corner of the flap.

That's very helpful, Jon!

I think I'm OK with these books after all. The book club edition is
described as having a page count of 222, and my book has 251. (Don't know
why I didn't think to check that sooner.)

I do believe I'm really turning into a book collector. I was so excited to
get this title...

Thanks Greg. I've got one other Inner Sanctum marked the same way. Even
though I'm sure that one is a first, they all three look like book club
editions. They are "that size," and the covers are so plain....

Don't get too excited about the decoder ring. When I first used mine, the
message was, "Be sure to drink your Ovaltine."

HaHa! I believe the message now is actually a question, something like
"What is flatsigned?"
