Missing Gold Coins Thrown in Trash

3/18/2009

A Bismarck man`s pot of gold is missing.

The man, who owns Modern Machine Works, said he
put a bag with 13 one-ounce gold coins on a shelf
in the storage room.

He noticed that it was missing, and reported
it to police.

They learned that the man`s brother remembers
throwing a bag away last month when he was
cleaning up.

That means the bag is probably in the city

The public works director says scavenging at
the landfill is against the law.

The gold is worth about $12,000.

"Well, yeah, bro, it was just some old bag sitting there. Sure, I
distinctly remember doing that even though it was a month ago. I
definitely remember tossing it without looking to see what was in it.
I do that all the time, don't you?"

As if.

If it had been his mother throwing it out, I could believe it.
"Yes, I cleaned up the back room. You had all sorts of useless
junk back there taking up space. What kind of grown man holds on
to a seventy year old 'Superman' comic? Honestly!"
