Default Rockola Tempo playing slow. Ideas?

I have a Rockola Tempo. The turntable seems to be suddenly running slow or dragging a bit. Any ideas what this may be?

Thanks.

Lift the turntable off and check the three tan coloured motor rubber
mounts. I bet at least one has collapsed. Replace all three...do not
loose the inner metal spacer tube when changing these out!

Thanks for the reply John. Any ideas where I would get new rubber mounts? They actually look ok to me, but of course I'm not sure how they should look. Very frustrating...this totally came out of nowhere.

Victory Glass could be a source.

As for what they should look like, they ought to be light tan and have the appearance of gum rubber. They should not be cracked or "melted" looking.

While you're at it, you might want to add a drop of lightweight machine oil to the bronze bearing that surrounds the turntable motor output shaft. Also, clean and lubricate (ultra lightweight lube) the bronze bearing and capstan for the idler wheel. Just be sure to remove any excess lubricant.

Respectfully,

David

If you are not sure about the rubber mounts, take a look at the
turntable motor's shaft. You'll that at it's top it "steps down" to
smaller diameter and is contacted by the idler puck that in-turn
touches the turntable.

The puck should be in the middle of that step and -evenly- touching
it. If it is high it probably means that the motor grommets have
collapsed.

Also, feel the puck with a thumbnail and see if it has some rubbery
"give" if it has hardened it won't have the grip needed. A simple
test is to see how easy it is to slow the turntable with even a light
touch while it is playing. If the puck has become hardened ot glazed a
quick fix might be to remove it and -carefully- rough it up and de-
glaze with a nail file or fine sand paper. Have the motor and other
turning shafts been oiled? Take a look at how long it takes for the
motor shaft to stop turning (turntable removed) after the power goes
off.

Given it's age a little of all the above may be needed.

Have seen some old AMI's where the motor bearings have failed.
Unlikely to happen over a short time though
but it doesn't hurt to lubricate them if needed.
