Default curious book -- would like help identifying

I have acquired a copy of a curious (at least to me) book:

Dan Brown. The Da Vinci Code. Doubleday, 2003.

It has the size, the thinner boards, and unpriced dust wrapper typical
to a BCE ... yet the copyright page says:

April 2003
First Edition
10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1

What is it, a BCE or ... ??

It's a book club. The club bought the printer's plates (or licensed them, or
the software, or however they do it nowadays) and didn't change the copyright
page. I have book club copies of several recent books that have the same
feature -- a first edition or complete number line on the copyright page. It
would seem the flap price is becoming ever more important as an indicator.
