Waterman Carene Repair Help
I'm in possession of a friends Carene that he dropped, nib down. The nib is
bent ~.15 cm up off the feed and the tines are slightly bent apart. There are no cracks to the nib nor missing tipping material that I can see with my loupe. Is it possible to repair this nib without replacing the whole section unit? If so, who can do that kind of work? The nib/feed section can be replaced for a total of $85.00 (incl. s/h). Just curious if there is a cheaper way to go for this guy. Thanks for the help. Kelly G. |

Kelly, for your peace of mind and your friend's happiness, strongly suggest that the nib/feed section be replaced for $85 as it will give you a brand new section that can be used on the Carene. To try to repair the damaged nib/feed section would be like trying to repair a broken Delta kitchen faucet when it is much cheaper and much easier to get a new one from Home Depot or Lowe than to spend time waiting for spare parts to arrive from Delta to retrofit in the faucet. You can also check Ebay for current prices on Carene fountain pens and see if you can score one costing a little more than 85 bucks if it is in brand new condition or you can search the net for cheaper alternatives, including a new nib/feed section or a new or barely used Carene. After you have considered all alternatives, you may find it better to buy a new nib/feed section for $85. Try to wrangle free shipping from the seller for all your trouble. Good luck on your decision. James K. Goodwin |
