Star of David, Cross, etc....
How is this as a response to the recent appearance of post WW-II swastika pens
after the Chicago show from South America? Waterman never made a swastika pen ....only Parker did (and decades before WW II)! http://members.aol.com/repairpens/ju...ian/index.html Are religious symbols now so taboo that people think the swastika is less controversial??!! I still think a post WW-II swastika pen is in incredibly bad taste. |

I read somewhere the word swastika in reference to a pen, but no picture. I
was sure it was just coincidence but I guess they actually did put swastikas on pens?! How about a pen with a crescent moon on it? A Buddah (though, I guess, Buddhism is more of a state of being than a religion?)? Richard "Scaupaug" wrote in message ... I remember reading that Montblanc pens sold to Islamic countires lack the bird poop as it could be construed to resemble the Star of David. I have no idea if that's really true or just myth. A Buddha (meaning "awakened one" and not necessarily referring to the historical Siddhartha Gautama- there are many Buddhas) would be tough to make meaningful on a pen as a simple outline, although one could engrave (or maki-e) one of the famous Buddha statues from many places in the world. Like most religions, Buddhism has many symbols that would be more easily rendered. |

I think it's a myth. I know in pre-revolution Iran (which may not have been an Islamic country, but was predominently Muslim), the Mont Blancs had the mountain top. Richard |

Or I should say I have seen several Mt Blancs without any logo on the cap top at all. In every case I was told for Arab countries. I've also seen a couple with a five pointed star, also for the same reasons to avoid a Star of David look. Im sure Mt Blanc varied things over the years depending on the country and reactions to the logo. Then there are the WW2 Mt Blancs with the Swastika in the cap top. But let's not go there again... And then there are the MB's with a straight line through the bird poop which
also was an attempt to avoid a Star of David look. Scott Nope. Or I should say I have seen several Mt Blancs without any logo on the cap top at all. In every case I was told for Arab countries. Nathan does nice stuff but he often does not make clear its pens he is making in his home. Currently. They are in no way shape or form pens made by Waterman, Parker or anyone else other than him. Yes, he uses parts from those pens, but they are altered, in fact, simply home made pens. Nice work but no one should ever think of them as pens made by any company other than the Nathan Tardiff company. They are not and never will be or should be really called Waterman or Parker pens.
