Hey "BF",

I assume by your model CD-8B, you have a SyberSonic operating system (RED covers on electronic assemblies). If so, the non-resettable counters are held in the E2Prom at location U1. If you have an eprom progammer with an erase function for 28C64 EEProms, you can just erase. OR, you can replace it. If it is the Advance SyberSonic (ORANGE or YELLOW covers) you can access function 87 for a "Factory Reset".

When I sell a used juke, I always reset these counters even on the older OS systems. People know they are getting a used juke and that it has served a useful life on a coin-operated route. Their safety and the safety of others listening to it does not depend on how many CD's / records have gone by. Unlike the mileage of a car, jukebox wear and tear doesn't kill anybody or affect the pricing guides. On top of that, other operators that buy our used units have no business knowing how much money we have made with the juke before it was pulled from location. LAST POINT - If there was such a law against resetting these meters, it would be state / local taxing entities that would require the readings for auditing purposes on the operator.

David,

My box is a 2000 CD-8B with "orange advanced electronics". I did a factory reset and the counter didn't change so I assume a chip is in order. I do have a Data I/O programmer so I assume I could erase U1 but will purchase another.

You sell it, they read out the count, and the count is wrong. That makes you a liar and
a fraud.

If you ever sell it, it's fraud. For now, record the counters and do
the
arithmentic.

Chuck,

Please do post what law I would be in violation of.

If the Jukebox stopped working on your Seeburg a long time ago and you
sold yours by your thinking you would also be guilty of fraud.

Either show me the law or please bud out.

Dear Chuck,

I guess you are entitled to your opinion however slanted it may be. You certainly don't know me and certainly aren't qualified to make any judgement calls on my credibility. You cannot back up your mouth with any evidence to support your opinion therefore you are left with one thing you seem to be good at and that is to bad mouth someone.

I sincerely suggest that you tunnel the effort spent here to something more positive.

I suggest that you have someone read this to you and explain it to you.

This is just one of many replies I have gotten. I have received a number of emails supporting me in this.

When and IF you can come up with a law that I would be in violation of I would be more than happy to see it and would welcome your input.

If you bought a car with an altered odometer and found out later you would be
****ed off, right? Ditto for jukes.

And I don't hide behind a nom-de-net like "burnedfingers". I post under my name.

Dear Chuck,

It would seem that you are still uncapable of understanding the difference between a primitive jukeboxe and an automobile. I had high hopes that someone you might know was literate and would read DRebber's reply to you. I thought you might have the capacity to partially understand what he had said. I was mistaken as it seems. As it seems you are only capable of your very limited tunnel vision on the subject.

As for my my name..... I have no need to advertise a business and or the capability to repair these primitive excuses for sound reproduction. I make a living repairing very large commercial and industrial sound reinforcement systems and don't need the added hassle of something else on my plate.
In the past on other boards I have given out my name only to be flooded by phone calls and emails requesting that I repair peoples broken audio equipment. I have no desire to repair something either for cost or free.

You cannot simply replace or erase U1 or the machine won't function. I put a blank 28C64 in place of the factory chip only to have it tell me that there was a Eprom2 error and the machine wouldn't work.

It's an object that bought and sold. It has a counter that shows how much it's
been used in the past. Same as a car odometer. QED.

The only reply DBebber made to me was:

Depending on which OS the box is using, you can erase the E2Prom or do a
factory reset.

The fact that you can do it, doesn't make it right. A crafty person can reset a
car odometer. And go to jail for it when caught.
