Question about $0.01 used book prices on Amazon
Can anyone explain how can it be worth it for anybody to sell used books for
$0.01 on Amazon? Even considering shipping allowance seller still has to go through the trouble of packing it, printing a label, shipping and also paying some fee to Amazon - all out of total $3.50. Where is the profit here? |

Where is the profit here? I know that Amazon sellers only get a portion (about 70% or so) of what Amazon charges for shipping ($3.49 for books). That doesn't leave much of a profit (I'm guessing about $.50, if they got the book for nothing) after packing, going to the P.O. and all but, judging from the amount of books I see selling for $.01 there, I guess it must be worth it. -- RWF |

Where is the profit here? My understanding is that these are often used as a way to pump up one's rating (or to establish a rating when one is starting out). I have also heard that there are pricing bots where people try to make sure theirs is the lowest-priced of a particular item. If multiple people are using these, it drives the price down to one cent. -- Evelyn C. Leeper Technology is a way of organizing the universe so that man doesn't have to experience it. -Max Frisch |

Where is the profit here? Sure. You are talking about "Shipping Charge Scrounges." They are not book people, but are a class of human reodent who will eventually infest any place where it is possible to make some money on anything. Anyway, a great many books can be shipped at book rate for around $2 or less. If you buy enough shipping envelopes, you can get them for no more than 50 cents. Okay, standard reimbursement is $3.49, so your "Shipping-Charge Scrounge" can make a buck or a buck and one-half on each order. Whether you are talking about selling books or shoe laces, the same type of greedy low-life would still show up eventually. [Memo from the upstairs office.] |

I'm not sure why you think they are greedy low-lifes--most of what they're selling that cheap isn't worth much more, and even it is, that's how selling things--books or shoe laces--works. Or are you saying there should be some official minimum price on books? Honestly, do you really care what that putz palmjob thinks? |
