What should i offer for this
A Rockola 1422 . Condition cosmetic . The wood needs a full refinish .
On the top near the back 2 layers of the wood are all ripped off about the size of a tennis ball There are other simple veneer chips around the back edge . The back door is beat up and splitting where it was broken into . There are 2 small holes drilled into the heft side of the cabinet that look home made . The front toe that sticks out is falling apart and pieces are falling off making the whole thing lean forward . The wood on the door looks ok with a bad finish . Door plastics are all ok , no broken stuff but dull and dark looking . The chrome is real good . Front colored sheet in the grille has 2 big breaks looking like spiderwebs . 3 color tubes are missing , motor parts for them are in a bag all dirty . Its missing all the coin gear and the entire speaker and its front wood board .The amp has never been serviced . Someone had twisted the speaker wires coming out of the amp together causing a big resistor in the amp to smoke . The tone arm cartridge is bad . Some belt is missing under the mech so i put on a big O-ring to test . It does try to select a record if i push around on stuff . After going through aprox 7 selections cycles the big mech motor gets real hot & shuts off . If i leave the turntable running for about a half hour its motor gets real hot . The whole area inside the record changer looks real good other than dirty . Its owner does not want to spend the $ it takes to get it working right again let aloan the bad cabinet repairs . I have been trying to find parts for quite a while & other than the colored plastic stuff inside from V.C. i cant find the other parts . One speaker i found was 300$ and coin gear was 275$ with a `make offer` other than that no parts . If that description is good enough ... what would a fair offer be for this thing ? |

All you mentioned is your standard restoration to-do list you might find on
any 40's juke. To it's benefit, chrome is good and resin and marbled plastic is all there. The toes on the 1422-26 come unglued and and seem to always need attention. Sounds like a pretty good project but if the amp is rebuildable and the wiring from the keyboard to the selector mechanism is intact then its doable. The motor heating during the selection cycle is common because of drag - the result of the cage and mech need ing to be taken apart, degreased and lubed. Heating during the play cycle is questionable, maybe the turntable transmisssion needs oil? The 1422 is my least favorite of the three. But if you like it and with the missing speaker and all the cabinet attention it needs, probably somewhere between $400-$600? Here's one that no one touched for $1400 http://cgi.ebay.com/ROCKOLA-MODEL-14...QQcmdZViewItem MRT "Keith Stelter" wrote in message . .. Offer to throw it in the dumpster... Thanks Mike . This machine is restorable with lots of time & effort . I
had 600$ in mind before i found out the price of parts . I have not found a older jukebox like this with a missing speaker before My main hobby has been antique radios for about 30 years . I thought a speaker from a big console would substitute but the field coil value is way off from the radios . Like Keith .. i like restoring jukeboxes and tend to spent way to much time polishing every corner and getting it perfect as it will go . I asked here to get a general idea so i could be fair with the owner of the machine as i know little about current values and i believe the owner was partly doing this for investment . Thanks ! |
