Default Pelikan M1000 vs. M800 Nibs

I have a M1000 with a fine nib which writes flawlessly and silky smooth on
nearly all types of paper. On the other hand I have a M800 with a medium nib
which was/is "coarse" and scratchy from the get go. I sent it back to
Chartpak and it came back somewhat improved but it is still no match for the
M1000 fine nib. I'm curious as to other peoples experience with a M800
trying to learn if it be worthwhile purchasing a new M or F nib.

the M1000 is supposed to have super flow, which, all things being
equal, would give you a wetter nib and a smoother glide. Of course,
the M800 is also reputed to have good flow, but of the M800 nibs I
have had written with, all but one has been too dry for me. The good
one was from John Mottishaw. The M800 nibs have been nice nibs once
I've cranked up the flow.

Unless you really want another one, I'd suggest you have somone adjust
the flow on the nib you have. This is easy to do yourself, but if
you've never done it before, you should either practice on something
you wouldn't mind destroying or let someone else do it.

Thanks for your suggestion. I don't want another lousy nib nor do I want to
louse up the one I have. I'm going to contact John Mottishaw and follow his
advise. I believe it was JM who repaired and restored a broken vintage
Waterman nib for me a while ago and did an outstanding job.

A GREAT PEN: my pelikan m1000 is very smooth. i have a 800 demonstrator in
green and it is like you described your 800. i don't use it anymore. i
only use the 1000. it is my go to pen. holds lots of ink and fits
comfortably in my hand. my nib is fine as well and i see no reason not to
recommend this pen to anybody.
