8 TRACK PLAYER STUCK ON TRACK 1 !!!
I found a cheap but charming SOUNDSIGN "cabinet" system at the thrift
store today for $25. It includes two cassette decks and a turntable that works beautifully, and I tested the 8-track out, and it played beautifully, too. But when I got it home and put in GET THE KNACK, I noticed it kept repeating track 1. I then tried to "manually" change tracks with the program button: no dice! It won't change tracks on it's own, and it won't let me manually do it. Thanks. |

The head height mechanism on any 8 track machine is probably going to be gummed up at this age, but there has to be some sort of solenoid response to being activated for it to do anything. Play a tape, turn the audio off, and press the button...if you don't hear anything, you have an electrical problem. If you hear a "clunk" but the track won't change, I'd first suspect the head elevation mechanism is probably stuck. |

Thanks. the track switching mechanism is stuck- take it apart, clean the old lube off it, and relube it with WD-40 or light oil- get it working- then put it back together again |
