Default Budget crisis forces museum to auction coins

Was this a Stacks or maybe a ANR auction? The article doesn't say.

I have maintained, for quite a while, that museums in general should
divest themselves of extra or duplicated items or items that they will
not display and use the proceeds to either add to the collection or
pay operating expenses.
Can you even imagine the extra coins that the Smithsonian must have in
the vaults? The multi-millions of dollars worth of duplicate coins,
stamps and other items could keep the museam going for quite a while
and would give collectors an opportunity to own coins that otherwise
are never on display and never available.
