OK, got this to run and play, I think the carriage was where it
stopped last time it worked many years ago, rebuilt the amp & power
supply, cleaned and cleaned up machine,
The carriage was in the play position, it seemed it had just placed a
recoud on the turn table and was ready to play when the power supply
burned up'
so I put a record on the turn table and it went ahead and played, but
when it came to the cut off the gear jumped on the carriage drive gear
and did not return the record to the magazine, I suppect the carriare
gripper is froze up from many years of setting, how do I tell for
sure?
please help if You can!

Hi Doc,

You NEED a copy of the factory manual - as I recall it has a
troubleshooting guideline that will help you narrow down the problem.

Of course, with a machine this old you do have to take the gripper
assembly completely apart to clean out the dried up greases, then oil
and reassemble.

If you don't do this you will not have a chance of a properly working
machine...

Normally best to advance the motor so the gripper is back over the
record magazine and the record released before taking it apart.

If the mechanism is too gummy to move easily heat the assembly up with a
hair dryer (on medium to low) for a few minutes to soften the dried up
grease/oil. Do not 'cook' the assembly so that it is too hot to touch!

You dont need a book , you need to oil that joint with light oil and
then some heat wont hurt . It may need taking apart if it wants to get
stiff again .

John
I did get the gripper unit apart, using heat, I used a small brass
hamer, didn't break any thing, Had a little trouble getting it back in
time, think I got it now, had to rewire the gripper motor, the wire
was very bad, think I will have to do the same with the magazine
motor, only problem at this point is the cam on the shaft comes with
in about 1/8" of going back where it was I think I know now why, the
shaft may have moved in to the end shaft that ammount when I was
tapping the steel shaft out, at least I hope that is what it is and
hope I can tap it back, some the cam set screws will go back to their
original place.

thanks for Your help.
