AMI E-120 Technical help needed? I'm stumped.
I was listening to my E-120 the other day and the record was skipping
so I went to hit the reset and while bent over I smelled smoke so I unplugged it. I looked closer and noticed a button had propelled itself off. I usually notice when the glue lets go. But I missed this one. So I reglued the button and replaced the fuse. After making a selection the carriage moves and when it hits the selection finger it stops hard with the carriage motor still humming. If left like this the fuse would blow. The selection finger hits a switch which is supposed to activate a relay but the relay doesn't move. If I manually move the relay the carriage motor stops and I think the transfer moves just a tad then stops leaving the turntable spinning. Hit the reset it moves the transfer back a tad thus shutting down the amp/turntable. I replaced the counter solonoid (no change). Changed the transfer motor (no change). I used an ohm meter and compared the relays and solonoids with another juke I have. All readings the same. I tested the voltage coming out of the supply right around 30 volts. Yes the selinium rectifier was changed to a solid state bridge. Any ideas from Ami experts? |

AMI E-120 Technical help needed? I'm stumped.
When the mech part hits the selection finger it moves some contacts to
shut off that motor . Those contacts are probably not working right . When i restored my 120 it took several tries to get those contacts to stay working . That may be the problem ? |

Any ideas from Ami experts? on your button i supose your talking about the selector buttons. i have found out by tearing off a small piece of paper towel and put over the metal tab and pushing the plastic button down over it will fix most of those problems. if you smelled smoke then you may have melted a wire somewhere. theres a switch that is made up when the record is at rest. see if you have voltages there. if your fuse is okay then you may have a wire broken . also make sure all you button tabs are released. due to the small voltages sometimes if you have a button tab that is not released it will affect other things.. there good boxes but can be a pain to try to located the problems sometimes. hope this helps. norm |
