Default $100,000 Gold Certificate

I know there are only 2 or 3 $100,000 Gold Certificates survived and they
are all in the museums. No private individual ever own one.
Strangely, two persons in the past month asked me how much is one worth
because they have several and want to sell them. They claimed the notes are
genuine. One sent me front and back scans.
Front http://tomchao.com/ebay/goldcertf.jpg
Back http://tomchao.com/ebay/goldcertb.jpg

They look obviously fake. Are they counterfeits, replicas or what? They do
have different serial numbers. So probably not replicas. But too poor
quality to be believable counterfeits. I'm also wondering where they came
from?

By the way one guy was kind enough to offer me 20% discount off face value.

Who knows. A real one is here http://tomchao.com/na/us12.html.

How nice of him! You might express interest and arrange for a
"viewing" of the notes with the intention to buy them - and have a
Secret Service agent handy. That might be fun!

You have to wonder that the person whom wrote you copied the note from your
site and just photoshopped the serials.

Ha! Didn't even realise I'd chosen as an example of a legitimate note
the one from Tom's site! :S

No, It's not copy from the real note. Look closely:

1. paper tinted yellow to look antique. Real note has white paper. Perhaps
with red and white linen threads.

2. The position of "Gold" of Gold Certificate overprinted on the gold seal
is too high up. Compare with the real note on my site.

3. The overall quality, especially the back design, is rather poor. See how
sharp the real note looks?

4. The note have Series of 1934A on the top left and Series of 1934 at the
botoom right. Two different series appear on the same note?

5. Look at the top of your note. "TH" and "IS" of THIS IS TO CERTIFY.... is
uneven Looks like two halves stitch together for copying.

Well, the guy that sent me the gold certificate earlier admitted it was a
fake. Blamed on his lawyer.

Here's his story: i have made some investigation about the notes that my
grandfather left me. the notes i sent you last time was from the lawyer i
was talking about unfortunately, he gave me a fake one so that i would not
pursue any transactions on the notes and keep it for himself. as we speak,
he is in hiding with an undisclosed amount of money from our family assets.
i was able to find the Gold Certificate NOTE (attached) in one of the Files
his former secretary gave me the other day. We have pressed charges against
this lawyer and so far no one has seen him. what can you say about the note
attached? Thanks Tom!! please let me know if the note i have has any worth
and can be redeemed or even make any money out of it.

The note does look genuine. Any experts out there?
I do not know the value since none were ever put on the market. I
guessestimate (just off my head) is 3 or 4 times the face value if genuine.

Back http://tomchao.com/ebay/goldcert2b.jpg

I might suggest he put it out at ebay.

This one looks to be genuine (as opposed to the obvious fakes mentioned
earlier).
This is a bold statement coming from me because I am convinced there
are none
(and have never been any) in private hands. At least, I was convinced
up until a few
moments ago. Granted, I have only these scans to go on, but there
seems to be
something about it that suggests reality to me.

If it is genuine (and that's a fairly big "if") I would suggest it is
almost certainly
unique in the market and as such, could command any price you could
imagine.
Even in this condition (stained, corner missing etc.) I would suggest
as much as
10 (that's ten) times face value or more. Only problem is, it's
actually illegal to
own one, so selling it might be a problem. However if I had a lazy
million, and
it proved to be genuine, I might even think about it, but keep it quiet
ok!
