Rock-ola 451 gripper failure
Failing to grip disc off the deck to replace in carousel.
The gripper is kicking up before the arm retracts inwards so is above the disc rather than peripheral to disc before lifting. The m/c has not been used for some years and and suspect the grease in the paired cog area has gone sticky. Holding the gripper arm down with a bit of finger pressure allows gripper to work. Also using service switch to step the drive the gripper arm repeatedly lifts and then drifts back when there is no drive motor until the point of the full lift drive engages. If it is a grease problem , how to take this paired cog section apart to clean ? -- Diverse Devices, Southampton, England electronic hints and repair briefs http://home.graffiti.net/diverse:graffiti.net/ |

Rock-ola 451 gripper failure
I had the same thing in a Rockola CD mech - I finally loosened up the where
the 2 cams slide together and lubed it up good with slick 50 oil. "N Cook" wrote in message ... Failing to grip disc off the deck to replace in carousel. Rock-ola 451 gripper failure
This is a lubrication problem. The old grease and oil has gotten
sticky. Flush out the gripper housing, where the trunion pistons go in and out, with WD-40. use caution, cover the records, WD-40 will burn holes in them. Let the mech go tnrough it's motions, adding more WD-40 as it runs. After a few cycles it will smooth out and work properly. Squirt some between the gears to flush out any old grease binding there. Rarely do you need to dis-assemble the mech to clear this problem. Afterwards, if you want to re-lube the mech, I reccomend a synthetic oil, like Mobil 1, they won't turn to varnish when they get old. Charlie Maier |

Charlie Maier I would have tried WD40 but didn't have any with me. The main fault that I was asked to sort out was the owner realised that the deck motor suspension grommets were perished. He first tried removing the whole deck drive sub chassis but failed , reassembled and just removed the motor and replaced the grommets. Unfortunately he had twisted something along the way , the mechanism seriously jammed and he gave up on it for some years. He (using levers) or the mechanism had managed to bend the the deck chassis sublate so the extended angle plate/latch from the disc-centre lifter was twisted. This latch then could fall and catch at the end of the plate with the long slot so jamming things good and proper. Also twisting the angle plate at the double cogs drive that connects via long rod to the stylus brush arm etc. . Straightened things out and reassembled and that all works fine. I'll tell him to squirt WD40 in the double cogs area lifter/rotator gearing and hopefully will be fully working mechanism then. -- Diverse Devices, Southampton, England electronic hints and repair briefs , schematics/manuals list on http://home.graffiti.net/diverse:graffiti.net/ |
