FA: Civil War Cavalry Sword, Roby Blade, Mdl 1865
Civil War Cavalry Sword, Roby Blade, Mdl 1865
This Civil War Cavalry Sword is in excellent ++ condition. It is a Roby Blade, Model 1865 and all original and not been messed with. The sword measures 41 inches long with a blade length of 35 inches. The hilt is brass with original leather and wire wrap. There is no damage to the leather and the brass braided wire is not broken. The brass hilt guard has a stamping (D.9.C 50). I do not know if this is a unit designation or not. Beneath the hilt is the leather washer. The blade has one fuller on each side. It is marked on one side, (R.Roby, W. Chelmsford, Mass) on one side near the hilt and (U.S. 1865, A.G.M.) on the other side near the hilt. The blade is in excellent/near mint condition. There is absolutely no rust or pitting. The blade has never been sharpened or messed with. This sword was purchased from an Estate sale and hung above a fireplace along with a matching sword for over 50 years. Unfortunately, the owner threw out the scabbards in the 1950s so I do not have it. It may be possible, however, to find a scabbard to make this sword complete. This is one of the nicest swords I have come across. To see pictures, please view at: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI...tem=2215256190 |
