Default What is with Todd Mueller on ebay?

...It appears he is now selling first edition BOOKS? Where does that fit in.
I could understand if a rare book dealer offered the occasional autograph. I
cannot understand how a fulltime autograph dealer can offer hords of books.

....AND apparently you have to pay for a COA if your item costs below a certain
amount. Otherwise you get nothing. I have never heard of a seller charging for
a COA, that's a new one! Isn't that their big selling point, the name?
apparently its to 'save costs' Funny, I thought that was what the .99 auctions
were doing.

He has also started, as I stated before, using private bidding. Its like a
whole new company...

However, if these are first edition SIGNED books, then you need to ask
yourself if he bought a large lot of books, what are the odds of them
being legitimately signed? I mean buying in a group and then having to
offload them... and what are the odds of him knowing exactly that it's
a first edition book? It's NOT ALWAYS clear on some of the books...
and also why would you have confidence with his grading the books and
caring for them properly while he's not sold these before. Excuse my
skeptism, but someone not selling a certain thing has a ton of
something, I wonder....

COA's are just a piece of paper anyway--why does everyone put such a
emphasis on them?? If the sig. is legit--it should stand on it's
own--although I do agree with REAL forensic data COA's if they are from a
reputable third party with no financial interest in the items. I sorta
looked a little at the volume of the items being sold. . .sorta fishy unless
someone has bought a legit collection of late. I am skeptical since there is
no explanation of where everything was obtained or how. . .VOLUME speaks
louder than words and springs up an abundance of red flags. Hey, it's his
funeral if it's a deception--sooner or later it'll catch up with him or any
other lying (expletives)!!
What bothers me most is that there are an abundance of the real thing out
there to be found--why fake it?

Good point about the COAs- I don't think anyone here would disagree w/you
there. I just can't believe he would SELL them as a separate item. And I find
the volume highly suspicious.

It all comes down to economics- most people aren't willing to pay for an
autograph. So they get stuck with fakes. This is not to say that autos have to
be expensive, they can run the gamut. But the point is people are lazy- they
don't do their research and they want a cheap bargain. There is no such thing
as a 'cheap' auto; everyone is unique. That's why fakes proliferates.

Of course one wonders if forgeres spent the same amount of money pursuing real
autos and not making fakes what would happen...

You are so right about the main points in your post.
People are lazy, they don't do research and THEY WANT A CHEAP BARGAIN.
Well in autographs cheap bargains rarely are bargains. We all know what they
are.

I never know what to do with the things. I get them when I buy something of
a private signing, but I can't put them in with the autographed item, since
the paper probably isn't acid free.

I always use acid-free paper to support my photos/Ic's ect. I usually put them
behind the paper and/or in a separate folder. I tend to only buy from people I
trust, so I like to have them at the very least as a paper trail.
