That's a semi-pro Alesis ADAT recorder...8 tracks to ADAT digital
tape. These machines are used for "garage band" and bar band
production and a lot of other low-buck multitracking applications. For
the money, they're pretty decent machines...not very long lived, but
sonically competent. No, ADAT has ZERO to do with consumer 8 track
cartridges at all; it's far superior.

Capital idea! Perhaps we could interest one of the kOOkophile over
there to study Noodles and then dig and pry into his horrific
life...although we've unearthed plenty about "Noodles" here already.

up two AIOE.org "freebie" Usenet accounts, only to have two them shut

This kOOk has had a plethora of different spoofed names and email

wanting info on this wretched specimen, just ask!

Enjoy your kOOk watching!

Default 8-track oddball?

gee, that's so difficult to i.d. (NOT !)

It's an ADAT 8-track recorder, you DUMB ASS- that is more modern studio
format, and it uses VHS tape, and has higher resolution than modern ****ty
CD:

"Alesis ADAT (1991)
Released in 1991, the first ADAT machine took the recording industry by
storm. An 8 track high quality digital recorder with 16 bit depth and 48 kHz
sampling - all in a compact footprint. The ADAT's use standard S-VHS
cassettes that allow up to 60 minutes of better than CD quality recordings
to be made. Initially, the first machines had an approximate $4,000 street
price, but compared to their earlier 8 track open reel counterparts priced
about the same for a studio grade machine at the time, the ADAT won the
quality battle hands down. The current era of Multi-track digital recording
had begun !

Later incarnations of the product line, resulted in 20 bit sampling.

Like it's soon to come Tascam competitor (The DA series), the ADAT's can be
slaved & synchronized together and the amount of the channels you can add is
limited for practical purposes by the number of machines you can afford (at
least without ending up in divorce court).

One major advantage of the ADAT deck, is the 1/2" S-VHS tape format it uses.
The much wider tape is much less susceptible to edge damage than Tascam's
8mm format. The much lower data density per square mm owing to the larger
tape, results in increased reliability and longevity of the tape."

we all noticed, how your description was missing the tape width, type
of cartridge, history, etc.

futhermore, buy a studio machine, put it in your house- PRESTO- now
it's a home consumer format, easy as that

ta-ta !!

you really aren't very smart, are you

anything can be classified as an "8-track", even a cassette deck, R2R,
or digital SACD recorder

just cuz it says 8-track, doesn't mean it's related to the 8-track
cart, which has 4 pairs of stereo tracks

studio 8-tracks play all in one direction, at one time- i.e. all 8
tracks, for ONE SONG, each one given an instrument or voice to dub
onto the finished product- which is usually mixed down to a stereo
recording- but also to a surround sound 5.1 mix, or some other
surround variation

get your verbage straight

garage band- yeh right- the machines cost $5000 or more new- that
ain't "garage band"- it was a professional studio machine

we all noticed, how your description was missing the tape width, type
of cartridge, history, etc.- that the later recording history link
provided

i.e. you're a POSER

futhermore, buy a studio machine, put it in your house- PRESTO- now

Idiot...it's ADAT. If you don't know what DAT and ADAT are, then you
need to chuck your computer and further isolate yourself from society.
DAT is pretty much an obsolete format now, what with CD-R/CD-RW taking
over from it. But back in the '80s, it was the latest wrinkle. The
DAT format was hyped by Sony for a short time as a "home" digital
recorder, but at around $1200 a copy, they didn't sell too well.

Duh...not. Besides, Noodles, you're too stupid to know the difference
between pro and consumer grades. You think everything sounds good,
because you don't KNOW what sounds good.

BTW...seventh instance of "user name spoofing" by Charlie Nudo in two
days. was terminated by aioe already. Look at the
header...he's posting from
on Google Groups.
