Default Yet Another Philatelic Christmas Page

This time I have put together some of the nicest cards and covers dedicated
to Christmas that I have found in my collection:

I am writing this as your page loads (zzzzzz)
thanks to the 56k dial up.

Can we have too many Chrismassy Links?

Thanks to our multiculturalocity, some of our Australian pre-school
locations are abandoning traditional Christmas, as it may offend
those of other faiths.

As an ex-choir boy, I find this rather depressing.

At long last, I finally have an ADSL-connection :-) What a change to the
better! Suddenly everything runs more smoother and flexible :-))

Never!!!

Would any of those faiths abandon any of their festivals because of
the possibility of offending those of your faith?

If not, you should make a fuss about it.
To hell with political correctness.

Some of our schools celebrate Diwali as well as Christmas.

What do you mean by "traditional" - turkey and christmas pudding (or barbie
on the beach) together with Santa Claus, or the religious bit?

Regards, Roger

Well, you CAN do something if all our Christian brothers and sisters would
just stand up and tell the PC crowd "NO". Voting would be a great first
step if our Christian community would just do it.

Good question,
I'm not sure. Possibly a meld of both.
Traditionally, as I saw it, it was the Santa mystique,
but always followed, the explanation of "the real reason for Christmas"
which brought along with it, some moral education, within the framework of religion
but not exclusive to it.
I have no issue with religions per se, my son is a Buddhist by choice,
the moral message is constant between them.
When institutions abandon the religious tie, then the moral instruction
is teacher orientated, and to me, some wonder and exclusivity is lost.

When I was a kid, Christmas centred around "good neighborliness"
today, I don't feel that, in my community. To get close to it, I have to
visit Church or Temple, in which both, I feel quite comfortable.
Best Regards.

Dont be offended Brian, it is Australian parlance at work.
likewise we have many *******s in Australia.

"Nice *******s"
"lucky *******s"
"poor *******s" etc etc ad nauseum.

The real ones to look out for are the "real *******s"

the real meaning of the word has been lost to history.
some country folk may have never been to church in their life,
but one could not find more genuine, caring, moral people anywheres.
That would probably hold in most countries in the world.

How many people think of it as somebody's birthday unless they are
reminded of it?
In any case, the festival, which celebrates the start of days of
increasing length, predates the birth of Jesus by many centuries. The
church fathers were just very successful at hijacking an existing
event.
