Default Sony TC-8 Question

I have an old Sony TC-8 player/recorder that has been in the closet for
years. When I tried it today, it played the tape very slowly; could this be
a belt problem?
There is also akind of 'jingling' sound then playing, maybe the fan hitting
something?
The main question I have is how do you open this thing?

That's the "toaster" looking thing from Sony, right? Only seen one,
didn't even bother to try to fix it.

Default Sony TC-8 Question

actually it's a upright standing deck, with a large AC motor, good
design- plays the tape vertically, it goes in straight down- so no tape
dragging usually, as the tape is on top of the capstan

I have one, the transport is fine, but channels are shot- bad pots

great for making an adjustable head machine- the tape adjustment screw
is facing horizontally outward- drill a hole, bingo, adjust the head
while running from outside

The jingle is the belt riding up on the fan-like piece that rotates when the
unit starts up. I'll try a new one and see what happens.
