What's a good place to place notices of books wanted to purchase (without
getting inundated)?

Investigate www.abebooks.com. Registration
is free, searching is fast and accurate, and you
can list rarities not found in the current inventory.
They send you an email when it turns up. (I just
bought a rarity for £30, seen earlier only seldom
and usually for $100, that turned out to be a first edn.)

Hi George,

I usually do a lot of scouting for books - if you wanted to let me know what
you were looking for - I could put out feelers and see what comes up.

Collecting books can be tough so the more places you ask for help, the
better your chances are

You can also try posting on CraigsList in a number of cities to see if
something surfaces there as well.

Thanks to the two suggestions. I have listed my wants on abebooks for
some years now, mostly with little success. On tghe other hand,
looking at AddAll for example there are many more books out there, but
one cannot invite bids for them - except for responding to addAll
listing etc. I was just looking for an in between venue.

Cheers,

George
