I don't consider the old 50's rowe mechs - whether the 80/120 selection flat bed mechs or the 200 selection carousel type to be particularly hard to repair, specially if you have the manual. In fact the "F-120" that you mention (flat bed) should be pretty easy to work on, and to keep it working. Its very straightforward and easy to understand. With ANY juke of that age, things like rotten insulation on mains wire, faulty caps/valves in amplifiers will be there, and need to be dealt with. I would prefer to work on an AMI mech of that era to a Seeburg of that era, this isnt to say that one brand/model isn't more valuable/collectable/desirable than the other |

It's so simple vs the Seeburg, and it just works. Replace that zip cord in there, it's BAD (all 50's AMIs are like this - only real downside). The F is'nt the best looking thing. But, instead, you get an amazingly reliable mech, and a killer sound system. If it doesn't blow you out the room, there's something wrong with it - seriously. And the selector buttons are easy to clean up too. I do'nt know why collectors think little of the d/e/f/g. They're excellent machines, very reliable, and they're beyond 'operator friendly'. And with the F and G, you get an excellent sound system - far better than anything else of the time. Seeburgs? They're good once going, but a pain to clean the mech. That mech's a work of art, though. It just doesn't look like it was designed in the late 40's... |
