Default golden 1999 US quarter???

I got a gold 1999 quarter in change today, with George Washington on one
side and the Connecticut "Charter Oak" design on the other. I did a quick
google search and couldn't find any articles about the mint producing golden
quarters. I *did* find a bunch of places to buy 24-karat gold plated
quarter collections however.

Can someone tell me if the mint actually produced gold quarters? Or does
this sound like one of those collectibles that some kid got from his
grandmother and promptly put in a bubblegum machine?

thanks,
Frank

It's a gold plated quarter. Has no numismatic value, spend it.

Most likely gold plated. The mint didn't strike any "golden" dollars in
1999 but rather minted SBA's. So the chances that this is struck on a
"golden" dollar planchet is very nearly zero.

Thank you to everyone for the responses! I like to save SBA's and Kennedy
1/2 dollars for the neighborhood middle school kids selling useless stuff
for their school clubs. I think I'll keep this one for myself though, just
for grins.

Several others have said words to the effect that it is probably not
worth keeping. Maybe not, numismatically. But, I've got a number of
coins that could be said of ... so what? If it is of interest I keep
it anyway. Only cost me face value.
An example: years ago I found a Cent which someone had punched/stamped
an ampersand ( & ) into. It is worth 2 cents because it is pre-zinc.
When I look at it, I wonder ... now who did that, and why? Knowing
the answer isn't important. But, it is still in my collection, LOL

I have a Penny that was counterstamped with a Christmas Scene. Isn't
worth more than .02 cents but the Kiddies went "WOW"!
