Default a note from a old stamper

Hello group:

Thanks once more for the warm invite, and I have to say we are a old
breed that without us saying something about stamp collecting, it will
go the way of carbon paper and rotary dialed phones !
I enjoy taking my collection out almost daily to look at all the
history and time I spent finding most of my gems for my collection. I
lived when a lot of it was happening, I mean the Space Race with
Russia. Each stamp reminds me what I was doing, and how each one fits
into spots in a book to find me later in my life. I wish at times I
had a answer to those that think stamp collecting is almost dead, gone
with the goonie bird, gone with front porches that have found thier
way to the back of the house and called a DECK. Yes groupies I am
concerned about our hobby and what we know is good for our youth. Once
more I am a loyal Stamp Collector, but I might shuffle off to shows, I
love my hobby and I hope you do to.

Quite so ... I can remember reading that back in '97 many of the same
views
being expressed - how the hobby was in trouble; how too many stamps were
being issued; fakes and forgeries and scammers abounded; modern inventions
were taking the place [and time[ of simply enjoying the collecting ...

Somehow, despite all this, the hobby has survived and grown, yep, back in
'97 it reaslly looked dark ... 1897, that is!

I can say that in my city of origin, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Canary
Islands, Spain) all philatelic shops have dissapeared some years ago.
Fortunately here in Madrid where I reside now things are a little bit
different, although most stamp prices are the same or a bit higher than
catalog values.
