Here is a close-up of the nib. Looks like just the Waterman logo stamped
there. The only other markings on the nib are an "M" on the bottom side.
The cap has a Waterman logo on the flat surface of the top. The cap has a
gold Waterman logo and the word "FRANCE" between the gold bands near the
base of the cap. Just above the the gold bands the words "WATERMAN" and
"MADE IN FRANCE" are engraved. There are no other markings on the pen.

I think that looks like the first Expert, from about the late 80s

-early 90s. That version is no longer made, but the Expert has
changed over the years, with all the updated finishes. In the early
years, the colours were all solid, dull colours.

I *think* the first Expert did NOT have the brass lining, but those
after it, did.

That was my thought as well, but I wasn't confident that the model was
the Expert. I have a couple of Expert II pens that look quite
similar, which was all I could base my opinion on.

What markings are on the nib? It's hard to tell from the photo.

That's consistent with my Waterman pens of the past few years, from my
C/F onward. Older Waterman pens were US-made and different in style,
but I have to admit I think that Watreman of today does a very nice
job stylistically

That's an interesting nib. Not having actually handled an Expert of
the ca. 1990 vintage I don't know if that's consistent with Waterman
nibs of the time. Frankly though I have a hard time thinking anyone
would go through the trouble of faking a pen that sold for, what, $50
to $75.

I have never seen a nib like that on a Waterman, or any pen. Maybe you
should call the Waterman service center. 1-800-BESTPEN (I think).

Feast your eyes on this one (supposedly an Expert I), which has
similarities:

According to a message by Waco Johnny D (see link below), the
Expert I had a "cutout over the feed" and possibly a "locking tab"
(whatever that is).

Message is dated 7/28/2002, subject Waterman Expert:

That appears to be exactly the same pen! I can't tell if the nib is all
gold in color, or gold and solver like mine. But I'd say that it is pretty
conclusively an Expert. Great find. Thank you for spotting that.

I think that I will try contacting Waterman to see if they can tell me when
it was made.

Cliff, when I first saw the nib on your pen, I thought it could have
been a Eurpean model. I noticed the seller of the pen with the similar
nib is in the UK. Maybe it really was a European pen.
